The subject of the article are phraseological units with components meaning heart: serdtse in Russian and yurek in Kumyk languages. The purpose of research is the culture language analysis of the phraseologisms indicating emotional state of a person to identify universal and national peculiar of phraseology in the world-images of different languages. The author uses mainly descriptive and comparative methods.
Serdtse in Russian and yurek in Kumyk languages are the key concepts in the cultures. These concepts are involved in all aspects of human life: spiritual, intellectual, religious, emotional, etc. Emotional state of a person can be transmitted in various expressive ways.
Phraseologisms with components serdtse in Russian and yurek in Kumyk can describe almost the whole world . As a concept of inner peace serdtse and jurek are the abstract concepts described in the world-images of languages through a comparison with the objects of the material world: serdtse kipit (heart boils) – yuregi synmak (heart breaks).
In Russian and Kumyk phraseological image of the world heart is a carrier of reclamation and pejorative characteristics: bol'shoe serdtse (big heart), kamennoe serdtse (a heart of stone), – shat yurek (merry heart), tash yurek (heart of stone).
Most idioms we analyzed has no equivalents. In the Russian language such idioms are mostly stylistically marked; Kumyk expressions are neutral.
The results of this study are important for improving bilinguals' speech culture. They also are useful in the preparation of bilingual phraseological dictionaries and translation studies.
