В статье рассматривается проблема понимания истории в творчестве И.А. Гончарова. На примере романа «Обломов» показано, что романист мыслил исторически широко: в романе сталкиваются не столько социальные уклады (феодализм – капитализм), сколько широкие культурно- цивилизационные эпохи. Соответственно строится поэтика «типа» и «сверхтипа».

The article addresses the problem of understanding history in the works written by I.A. Goncharov. When writing about modernity, the writer always embedded it in the widest context of world history. The author of the article uses the novel "Oblomov" in order to show that the novelist thought historically big: in the novel there is more confrontation of epochs of culture and civilization than that of social patterns (feudalism – capitalism). The writer's historicism manifests itself in the poetics of his works. The author of the article points out that there are reasons to think that the writer created not only "types" that reflect the specific periods of the life in 19th-century Russia, but also "supertypes" in which the writer turned to the study of human nature and which reflect the writer's inclination for building up "eternal" world images. This explains the extraordinary profundity of his artistic generalizations, the peculiar wisdom reflected in his attitude to life. The author of the article pays special attention to two features of the writer's historicism: a complex combination of history and modernity and its Christian basis. Moreover, the author points out that the writer did not contrast Christianity and the movement of history.
